Historic Cameron County Courthouse 1882

Location – Brownsville

Architect – J. N. Preston

built – 1882/83

Cameron County has 3 standing courthouses. The modern courthouse – where district court is held. The 1912 Courthouse – where the County Commissioner’s Court is held. Both are displayed in the County Collections – Cameron County.

This courthouse date from the 1880’s , missing its tower and front porch and currently serves as the Masonic lodge in Brownsville.  The tower was knocked down by a hurricane.
