La Sal del Rey

As part of our trip to the ‘Valley’ we stopped at La Sal del Rey, on our way to the Willacy County Courthouse.  Our friend, Dora, who lives at least part-time in the Valley, wanted to stop here because of the memories.  She remembers her father carrying her out to the salt lake (one of only three in Texas) and how exciting it was.  Well, I’m here to tell you – it couldn’t have been in June.  It was so hot – and the walk was about 1 mile each way.  And of course there’s all kinds of warnings to stay on the path – snakes!  It is interesting – but if you want to make the trip, try in early spring or fall.
