Basilica of San Juan Del Valle

We’ve been here before.  We went down to the Valley to spend Christmas with Clem’s sister & brother-in-law about 7 or 8 years ago.  We took Clem’s parents with us.  As part of that trip – we visited the Basilica of San Juan del Valle.  We went back – took bunches of pictures, of course, and got a supply of holy water.  There’s a lot of history behind this basilica.  The biggest story happened in 1970.  Some guy – flying his own plane, decided to crash into the Basilica.  Before he did so, he radioed in a warning, which allowed the nearby elementary school to be evacuated.  They were able to get out some objects from the church before it was destroyed.  One of those objects was the Virgin Mary – which is so prominately displayed in the sanctuary.  Miraculously, no one was hurt excepting the pilot.  The Basilica is visited by hordes throughout the year.
