Historic Live Oak Jail

return to Live Oak County Courthouse

Driving down I-37 – toward Corpus Christi, you’ll find an exit for tiny little Oakville.  Some might even call this a ghost town.  But it was once the county seat for Live Oak County before it was moved to George West.  There’s very little to see or of note here, except for an old building that many say is the retired county courthouse of Live Oak County.  I’ve done a lot of research (or at least a lot of google searches) and it seems a UTSA student took a lot of effort to document the building and it is actually the old jail of Live Oak County.

Regardless – it’s a romantic ruin.  I’ve heard that it was later turned into a B&B, but I’m not sure if that’s true or not, no whether any B&B that may have been established is still open for business.  if you have any interest – you might do some googling of your own.
