Jefferson, Texas

see Marion County Courthouse

Well, these photos don’t do Jefferson justice. This is a marvelous little town in East Texas. It may well be the most complete historical town in Texas. It was once – in the 1800’s, quite prosperous, and as such is full of charming period houses and buildings (courthouse excepted). It might well have been an important river port at one time. We really had only visited Jefferson to photograph the courthouse, so we hadn’t allocated any time to drive or stroll the streets and lanes. The visitors center (directly across from the courthouse) is attached to an original Humble gas station. We plan on coming back here some day – just to ‘do’ Jefferson – and maybe revisit the Cass County Courthouse once it’s reopened.
