Historic Victoria County Jail

Often the older, historic jails were designed by the same architect and in the same style or design as the courthouse.   This is not the case with this jail.  Obviously built in the 20’s or 30’s – it’s style is modern/art deco – it bears no resemblance to the towering and fabled Romanesque courthouse designed by the great J. Riely Gordon.  Fairly plain – but an impressive door and iron works at the entry.

Any Record on deaths associated with the jail? Who can we contact for a tour?

I have no idea of any deaths associated with the jail. It’s been some time since we visited Victoria – but if I remember correctly, the building was still being used by the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office. You might try calling them for any possible tours. There’s a good possibility that if it’s still used – it’s for uses other than inmates – as I’m sure they have much newer and larger facilities elsewhere.
