Williamson County Jail – retired

A really special piece of jailhouse architecture from the 1800’s.  This building actually functioned as part of the Williamson County Jail (see the attached building to the right of the old jail) until not too long ago.  The county has since outgrown both the old jail and its attached expansion.  These old jails really do give us a picture of Victorian times and their connection to the concrete – as in buildings.  It may have been that they thought it showed their prosperity, or that good would come out of bad if they built something building.

The jail was built in 1888.  The style that I noted on the historical marker is “French Bastille Styling”.
