Well this courthouse presented all kinds of disappointment.  First, as originally built, it was a beautiful classical revival building.  That was was remodeled in 1961 and then again in 1980s when is was completely buried.  So that’s the first disappointment.  Second, the remodeled building has  NO character of any architectual period.  It’s entrance has been moved (probably for security) to a side entrance that is devoid of anything.  And third – I had read of a courthouse that had been remodeled to death but had retained its original 1916 courtroom – restored, and was very much looking forward to seeing that.  Well, I didn’t think it was the Wichita Courthouse – and it was so uninspiring – we didn’t take much time to look around.  We failed to see the 4th floor courtroom.  Maybe someday, if we ever come back.  That is the ‘ensconced’ courtroom.
