Interior of Historic Harris County Courthouse

return to Historic Harris County Courthouse

go to Harris County Courthouse

The interior of the this 1910 beaux-arts gem is stunning.  Marble everywhere.  Great stair cases.  Clean and stylistic courtrooms.  Glass boxes in different places for light.  And the stained glass dome is dominating.  Even the elevator has the style you would want.

The glass dome is not original.  And it is not based on the original.  Rather, it is a rendition that an artist made for the style and colors that might have been used.  When the original was removed, the glass was gone.  There were no color pictures and no descriptions of the style or color.  I hope that’s the correct story  – that’s the one I’m sharing here.  I do know this is not the original and was not the original design.
