Dewitt County Courthouse, Texas

County Seat – Cuero (Turkey Capital of Texas)
Built – 1897
Style – Romanesque Revival
Architect – A. O. Watson
Photos Taken – May 25, 2011

Impressions: We took these photos on our Victoria trip. Cuero is a busy county seat. There is not really a town square – but the nearby main street is full of turn of the century buildings. This courthouse evokes that time period to a high degree. It is solid, imposing and a testament to the wealth of the community and the community pride that is still very evident in this farming town. Certainly, between Victoria Goliad and Dewitt counties, this area is a must for those searching out ‘golden era’ courthouses.
