Historic McCulloch County Jail

Nice little pile of bricks, complete with castellated towers.  Built in 1909, it now serves as the local museum.  Seems a lot of the old jailhouses serve that purpose.

From my travel journal:  The jailhouse, like many of the other jailhouses I’ve come across, is very obviously Victorian, and gothic in design – which seems to be the de rigor for these old beauties. I think the other word that fits with these lock ups is castellated. What was the thought? If we lock them up in a castle we’re good people? Or maybe the castle represented power and imprisonment to the Victorians.
