Hill County Courthouse

Location – Hillsboro
Built – 1890, rebuilt 1999
Architect – W C Dodson

Photos taken – June 24, 2014

see Historic Hill County Jail

The courthouse was almost totally destroyed in a devasting fire on New Year’s Day, 1993.  See this article for more info and photos.  It is said that the county’s decision to rebuild, using only the remaining 4 limestone walls, was the beginning of the courthouse restoration movement in Texas.  And what a marvelous job they did.  I really don’t have complete reference on this, but I believe they had detailed original plans and those were used to faithfully reproduce this Dodson gem.  If you’re making a short list of great Texas County Courthouses – this one will make many lists.
