For weather reasons, we visited the Brown County Courthouse on a Saturday.  Thus, we were unable to take photos inside or of the courthroom.  This was a little calculated, in that we figured the inside wouldn’t be too exciting.  I guess we’ll never find out.  This courthouse was actually built in 1884.  Then, in 1917, is was totally rebuilt – saving only the 1884 vault.  Not too exciting outside.  I did like the arches over the entrances – good brickwork.  And the porticos added the ‘classical’ touch.

Brownwood is the largest population center in the area and is pretty active with Howard Payne university located just south of downtown.  There are some large industries in town as well.  Brownwood High School has been known for years as a football power house, under the guidance of legendary coach – Gordon Brown.  There is a Gordon Brown museum in the old train museum.
