Cherbourgh

Really no great reason to visit Cherbourg (though it does have many historical connections). BUT – there was a land trip available to Bayeaux, and that intrigued me. Bayeaux, France is home to the famous Bayeaux Tapestries. More on that later.

Cherbourg, one of France’s great Channel ports, is closely linked to French naval history, and to transatlantic adventures – the Titanic even made its final stop here on its fateful journey, as recalled at the Cité de la Mer, one of the port town’s main tourist attractions.
The Cite du Mere Museum, the umbrellas of Cherbourg (factory closed when we visited on a Sunday) and the Basilica of Sainte-Trinite are all reasons to spend a little time in Cherbourg.
