Donley County Courthouse

County seat – Clarendon
Built – 1894
Style – Romanesque Revival (Restored)
Arcitect – Bulger & Rapp
Photos taken – 10/08 & 10/10/18

This was such a great courthouse we had to visit twice.  Seriously, we visited on Columbus Day and the courthouse was closed.  We were able to go through on our way home – and so we got both interior shots – and exterior shots with SUNSHINE!  It was cloudy on our visit visit.  Donley County was an early participant in the Courthouse Restoration Project – and it sure is a great example of what that program has done for the historic courthouses of Texas.  At one time the tower had been removed – and that was restored in the project.  The hallways, the courtroom, the stairwells – this all exudes turn-of-the-century exuberance when it comes to architecture.  When visiting – we ran into the county judge – John Howard, MD – so you’ll see him pictured with me in the first floor hallway.
