Armstrong County Courthouse

County seat – Claude
Built – 1912
Style – Classical Revival/Texas Renaissance
Arcitect – Elmer G Withers
Photos taken – 10/10/18

If you look at pictures of this courthouse from its’ early years – you notice, that it bascially looks the same – but the entrances had at one time been topped with pediments a little more impressive (see Armstrong County on the Texas Escapes website)  Other than that, this building looks a lot like the building designed by Elmer Withers.  The courtroom, especially, has a very authentic feel to it – with most of the room with original fixtures and ceiling.  It still has the balcony, as well, which are often covered in other courthouses.  Lots of marble, iron railings, etc. in the hallways.  One strange thing about the courtroom – while it is original and authentic – there is a courtroom photo from years earlier that shows the judges bench to be centered under the windows instead of in the corner as it is now placed.
