Howard County Courthouse, Texas

County Seat – Big Spring
Built – 1953
Style – modern
Architects – Puckett & French
Pictures taken: June 23, 2005

We stopped for the night in Big Spring.  A nice West Texas town.  We were on our way to Oregon, for the Sisters Quilt Event.  Our first big trip with a travel trailer.

The courthouse was rather uninspiring – being a product of 50’s modernism.  Everything looks institutional – your vision of a hospital or school.  Howard County courthouse seems more like a hospital.   No matter what you think or say about the 50’s, great architectural designing wasn’t one of the great achievements of that time period.  The floor did have a nice marble map of the county laying in the middle of the concourse.
