Grayson County Courthouse

County Seat – Sherman

Built – 1936

Architect – Voelker & Dixon

Style – Moderne

If you look at other pages of courthouses of North Texas (around DFW), you will note that I proclaim the area to be certainly one of the best areas for its wealth of styles and quality of its courthouses.  While many may not like the Moderne style – I do find it clean and generally impressive – like government buildings should look.  This representation of the Moderne Style is top-notch.  There are little touches all over – inside and out.  I especially like quotes carved on each side of the main entrance –
“The People’s Welfare if the Supreme Law”
“Righteousness Exalteth a Nation”
Wow – sounds very equalitarian.  Something that might have come out of the Great Depression.
