Smith County Courthouse

County Seat – Tyler

Built – 1955

Architect – Thomas Jameson & Merrell

Style – Modern

Photos taken – December 3, 2003

Having newly started our quest to visit and photograph all 254 county courthouses, Smith county was our fourth courthouse.  I have to tell you right up front, this building did not impress at all.  It is an example of a style called modern – out of the 50’s, and that style went for clean lines and functional – but not much else.  Whatever, this building did not impress me as a good example of any style.

My camera ran out of batteries here and I was only able to get two picutes – and I was determined not to come back to get more.  clem did get more – so I was able to present more than 2 photos for the slide show.  To be fair to Smith County, maybe, if we’d been able to get inside, it would have been interesting – but that didn’t happen.
