Marion County Courthouse

see Jefferson

County Seat – Jefferson
Built – 1912
Style – Texas Renaissance
Architect – Elmer G. Withers
Date Photographed – 12/7/12

Well, what a disappointment.  Jefferson is the epitome of historical Texas towns. But this courthouse adds very little to that ambiance. It is poorly situated – between the main street and river in the back. It has little to no lawn. It is sorely in need of repair and retoration. The courtroom is paneling with dropped ceilings. The list goes own – but why beat the dead horse? The people of Marion County realize this and are actively trying to gain funding for restoration. Right now, all they’ve been able to secure is enough ’emergency’ funding to do something about the windows.
