Granbury is located SW of Ft. Worth – and as such, is a fairly busy town.  The courthouse has been restored and is well worth a visit if you’re in the DFW area.  Very 1800’s – the Dodson designed building features a tower that many would almost describe as ‘spooky’.  That having to do with the period it evokes and not the design itself.

You might notice an unusual piece of history.  The little piece of plumbing located on the landing between chambers and courtroom.  This was for the judge – so that he would be better prepared for a long session in the courtroom.

They did a really great job in restoring this gem.  There’s a 1910 photo of the Treasurer’s office – and they worked hard to replicate much of what was in that photo.  And the courtroom, while a little unusual in its style, is said to be an accurate restoration of the center of 1890’s county justice.  Really a wonderful focal point for Hood County!
